Applicants must be currently employed as a sworn officer in a New Jersey Civil Service law enforcement agency for at least two years after graduating from a state PTC-certified police academy.
They must also have a New Jersey Police Training Commission certificate.
“Eligible officers from the BCSO are afforded the opportunity to be members of the Court Security Unit, Special Services Unit, Patrol Unit, K-9 Unit, Crime Scene Unit, Warrant Squad, Regional SWAT Team, Bomb Squad, Regional Crisis Negotiation Team, Training Unit, Community Outreach Unit and other specialized units,” Cureton said.
Cureton’s predecessor, Michael Saudino, laid off 26 officers in July 2017 from the defunct Bergen County Police Department amid budget cuts and what he said was a state mandate that a sheriff’s officer be in every courtroom at the county courthouse in Hackensack.
